Eligibility & Documents

PIS accounts can be opened by Non-resident Indians (NRI), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), seafarers and mariners.

To open an NRE PIS account, you will need your ID proof, address proof, NRI status proof, and your photograph for identification. You use the listed documents:

ID proof: Passport
Address proof: Driving License/Current Utility Bill (Electric/Gas/Water Bill (not more than 3 months old) as overseas address proof.
NRI status proof: Visa for Indian passport holder, PIO and OCI card.
Other documents:
To invest in India, your PAN (Permanent Account Number) card verification is mandatory.
A broker-wise statement with the latest balances of all your secondary market investments.
If you are transferring your account from another bank, you will need a PIS approval letter from your previous bank.
